‘Assessing hand protection’ – a course to build your competence

Polyco’s ‘Assessing Hand Protection’ course is designed to give those involved in advising on the selection of hand protection the competence and confidence to help customers navigate this often complicated process and avoid potential costly mistakes.

The course is the first on the subject to be accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and is delivered by former IOSH president and health and safety expert, Gerard Hand, alongside Polyco’s technology director, Bernard Garvey.

The highly interactive course comprises nine sessions, which alternate between theory and practical group exercises. The basic principles and processes involved in evaluating and selecting the right hand protection are discussed, and specific topics addressed include:

  • Legislation (PPE Directive, EN standards)
  • CE marking
  • Types of hand protection
  • Materials used – pros and cons
  • Manufacturing methods
  • Hand protection policies

The course is held at Polyco’s headquarters in Enfield and trainees will have the opportunity to take a tour of the company’s UKAS-accredited testing facilities.

The day concludes with a final assessment, featuring 10 short, multi-format questions. Successful candidates will receive
an IOSH certificate.
